about
"¡Velalandia!" is a Spanish reinterpretation of Ian McCulloch's solo record,"Candleland," from 1989, which is around the time Amores Vigilantes band members met and began stealing one another's Mac and Bunnymen albums.
Instrumentation includes: grand piano, nylon acoustic, vibraphone, Fender Rhodes, melodica, kalimba, saxophone, trumpet and a rickety Hammond Organ that hopefully sounds like a European police siren.
¡Velalandia! is the first single off of our forthcoming ¡CANDLELANDIA! EP coming out on 10" vinyl, which will include reinterpretations of "Proud To Fall," "Flickering Wall," and mucho mas more.
Thanks for giving it a listen.
PAZ, AMOR y MIL NOCHES de OCEAN RAIN to one and all.
- Amores Vigilantes
lyrics
¡Velalandia!
Pon tus memorias en la manos
Para que limpies tu vida
En medio de los pecados
Que llevas a la mitad,
Con la falsa fe y milagros
Que sólo vivirán
En Velalandia!
Pon tu pena como la piel
Y disfraza la maldad.
Mezcla sal con azúcar
Y úntala en la cara
Sabrás que ya te fuiste
Cuando llegarás
A Velalandia!
Pasé por mis recuerdos
A buscar mi juventud.
Subí la escalera
Y dormí en el techo.
Dicen que el conocimiento
Es la prueba del nacimiento
De Velalandia!

With influences that range from '70s soul to '60s Latin jazz to any decade of Garage Rock, the band crosses bridges into musical neighborhoods that most others pass right by. The band grew up together in grade school.
